Uniquely beautiful and spiritual.

The "new" St. Paul's Cathedral caused a great deal of comment within and without the parish when built in 1959. The architecture was a radical departure from the congregation's previous romantic 19th Century building. The new cathedral was built in the spirit of modernism to express the age rather than imitate the past, earning St. Paul's a listing in "Great American Cathedrals."

International, national, and local artists all contributed to this beautiful worship space. The entire south wall of the Chapel is composed of abstract depictions of Christian symbolism. Floor coverings hand-woven with wandering lines suggest contours of the earth; valleys and rivers created by God.

The baptismal font is a giant clamshell on a base of Texas
stone encasing fossilized shells and seahorses.

Center aisle carpets depict the fruits of the earth as a reminder, when approaching the altar, that all things come from God. Kneeling cushions in the sanctuary were created by women of the Parish. Their designs are representative of the work men and women do, along with wheat and grapes symbolizing the Eucharist.

More than a cathedral, this exceptional building has an institutional sized kitchen, complete theatrical stage plus public meeting facilities used by social agencies and community groups of all kinds.
