The Ministry of Music

Cathedral Choir

The Choirs of St. Paul’s generally rehearse and sing for Services throughout the academic year. The first rehearsals are held following the Labor Day weekend in September with the final Services of the year being those of Trinity Sunday (which usually falls in late May or early June, depending on the date of Easter.) The choir is always welcoming new talent.

Sing-it-Yourself Messiah

For more than 30 years, St. Paul’s has produced a “sing-it-yourself” version of Handel’s oratorio, Messiah, in which the audience members are the chorus. We employ world class vocal soloists and a professional orchestra for the accompaniment. This production has been informally named a “Peoria tradition” by the Journal Star. St. Paul’s is uniquely well suited to this type of production, with its Nave divided into four quadrants surrounding a central chancel and its pipe organ with pipes at both ends of the room.

Cathedral Handbell Ringers

The Cathedral Handbell Ringers meet on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. to rehearse. They generally ring on the fourth Sunday of the month at the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist in the Cathedral, on Christmas Eve, and on Easter Weekend (Vigil & Easter morning). This is a volunteer group where each individual member is vital to the whole group.

Celtic Cross
Pipes and Drums

The Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums also rehearses here in preparation for medal winning performances throughout the midwest, and internationally
