Our Stephen Ministers are dedicated Lay members of our cathedral family who provide a special ministry of one-to-one Christian care to those parishioners who are ill; lonely; bereaved; divorced; unemployed or experiencing other personal difficulties in their lives. They are persons who have received 50 hours of training in the area of Pastoral Care, but are neither counselors nor therapists. Instead, they are caring Christian friends who can offer a listening ear to help others through the tough times in life. They provide approximately one hour of weekly support and prayer to/with those persons desiring it - for as long as the care receiver desires this level of prayer and support. The Stephen Ministers also continue to meet with our Stephen Leaders (Canon Stanwise and Ann Boyd) for continuing education and supervision. It should be further noted that the highest degree of confidentiality is upheld throughout this process.
